Pictures of the Construction - Page 1
A Little Background:
Phase 1
Reconstruction and renovation of the roofs over the "Old Sanctuary" & "Upper Room" are the first steps. Resolving years of leaking problems that have taken time and direction from our ministry in our neighborhood and our community.
This will include replacing the ancient skylights over the Upper Room, replacing 2 of the furnace chimneys with modern exhaust systems, changing the slope in some troubling areas where drainage is a problem, replacing the drainage areas with larger collection areas for quicker drainage and reshingling with a modern 30 year shingle. Adding insulation to both roofs, which had no insulation for all these years.
The inside damage:
(The continual problems with the roofs damage the interior of the church. The stairway
to the Children's Sunday School rooms, the entry to the Upper Room and one of several
of the damaged Children's Sunday Classrooms are several examples of the damage .)
Major problems with drainage:
Southwest Corner Northwest Corner
The Southwest Corner Repair in Process - the corner has had the corner pitch greatly increased to enhance drainage.
The Southwest Corner - Built up and covered.
The Southwest Corner - covered, "torched down" and shingled. Ready for the Sheetmetal guy.
The Bell Tower Area:
(there was actually water under the flat area):
The whole south wall of the bell tower is defective; the brick is detached from the wood framework. Final repair options will be decided shortly.
Miscellaneous "In Process" Pictures:
Tar papered, and ready for shingles 10-27. Note the safety lines tethered to the peak of the roof.
Cleared out the south side and removed chimney #1. It was very unstable
and a potential hazard. Will be replaced with sheetmetal flue.
Staging on the east side of the old building.
Removed 2nd chimney (see hole in roof of new sanctuary), as it will have to be removed for Phase 2. This way we don't have a roof patch in the new roof.
Shingles over the old sanctuary. There were over 3 inches of cedar and asphalt shingles to tear off before they insulated and tar-papered the old building roof.
Staging area over the Narthex & offices. Note the protective sheets of sheathing laid out to protect the roofing on this part of the flat roof.
