Interior Remodel and Restructuring:
After clearing out everything and moving things to the Upper Room, we start removing walls for the construction to begin. We opted to do this work so Crest NW could spend their time building vs. removing drywall & sweeping (we can to that!).
We all got pretty good at using gloves, dust masks, eye protection and ear protection to minimize congregant injuries.
Terry starts opening up the wall in the narrow stairway going to the Upper Room. Karen and Emily continued tearing off the drywall for the bathrooms to be restructured.
Won't it be nice to have a 9' wide stairway in just a couple of weeks?? (see the drawing on "Construction Plans" page ).
Gene works on taking out a wall that will open up the Narthex area. We found a cigar within that wall, left from a worker in 1956! We'll have it placed in one of the new walls!
Emily is a blur when handed a sledgehammer and the opportunity to whack a brick wall. Note the eye protection and ear protection - we were very careful, especially with our Mistress of Disaster Emily! Pastor Wes got busy taking out the walls in the men's room.
Lots of shoveling, sweeping and vacuuming, dust in the air putting spots on the pictures! Here Sarah and Karen are getting the debris out of the way.
Here goes the brick wall between the old Narthex and the Sanctuary. Here's some of the crew from the Demolition Party of August 15th. Jan, Gene, Gretchen, Jack and Michael are hard at work knocking out the brick or gathering it up & taking it outside.
The picture to the right shows the wall that is left - nice big opening for the New Narthex!!
